Transparency and Accountability: Trust Through Transparency

As your next Mayor, Brendan K. Maginnis will rebuild trust in Charlotte’s government through bold transparency and accountability measures.

Recent controversies have eroded public confidence, but our plan changes that.

By enhancing the Open Data Portal with real-time budget updates, launching a Charlotte Accountability Commission inspired by Oakland, and empowering residents with participatory budgeting and community policy forums, we’ll ensure City Hall works for you.

Drawing on proven models from cities like Chicago and New York, and addressing criticisms from local leaders, Our vision is a transparent, inclusive Charlotte where every voice matters.

Affordable Housing: A Plan for Charlotte’s Future

Charlotte faces a critical shortage of 36,000 affordable housing units, with nearly half of our residents cost-burdened.

As Mayor, Brendan K. Maginnis will lead a transformative plan to address this crisis, building on successes like the Housing Trust Fund ($218M invested, 11,000+ units) and Charlotte Housing Opportunity Investment Fund (1,927 units created).

By scaling these programs with $75M biennial bonds and $100M in private investment, and introducing innovative solutions like 3D-printed homes, micro-units near transit hubs, community land trusts, and adaptive reuse of commercial spaces, we’ll deliver over 25,900 affordable units by 2035.

Funded by diverse sources—impact investments, federal grants, corporate pledges, and tax increment financing—this plan ensures long-term affordability and economic mobility for all Charlotteans.

Public Safety Initiatives: A Safer, More Inclusive Charlotte for All

Brendan K. Maginnis is committed to transforming Charlotte into a city where every resident feels safe, supported, and empowered.

Our comprehensive public safety plan tackles rising crime—highlighted by a 24.7% homicide increase in 2024—by expanding proven programs like the Office of Violence Prevention and Child Development – Community Policing, investing $32 million in job training, small business grants, and digital equity to reduce crime through economic opportunity, and reforming policing with education incentives.

Drawing on innovative models from cities like Chicago and Albuquerque, We'll prioritize community trust, youth engagement, and equitable economic growth to address systemic issues, including racial disparities in arrests.

With a focus on measurable outcomes—aiming for a 20% reduction in gun homicides and a 10% median income increase by 2028—Our vision ensures a safer, more inclusive Charlotte for all.

Join us in building a city that works for everyone.

Transit and Infrastructure: A Connected, Equitable Charlotte for All

Charlotte’s transit system must serve all residents, not just a few.

Brendan K. Maginnis’ plan rejects the inequitable $25 billion transit proposal and its 1-cent sales tax hike, which burdens low-income families and sidelines communities like Matthews and east Charlotte.

Instead of the $1.38 billion Red Line, delayed until 2035 and favoring suburbs, Brendan proposes a cost-effective $1.2–$1.5 billion Blue Line extension to Carowinds, leveraging existing infrastructure to add 10,000–15,000 daily riders, generate $50–$100 million annually for south Charlotte, and boost Uptown tourism by $20–$30 million.

By prioritizing infrastructure upgrades—addressing 9.3% deficient bridges and a 75% bus ridership drop—and introducing free fares on major bus routes like 5, 11, and 16, inspired by Kansas City’s 20% ridership increase, Brendan ensures reliable, accessible transit.

His innovative solutions, including high-quality bus rapid transit and microtransit, will connect transit deserts like north Mecklenburg, fostering an equitable, thriving Charlotte for all.

Reducing Childcare Costs: A Strong Start for Our Kids, A Brighter Future for Our City

Brendan K. Maginnis is committed to making childcare affordable and accessible for all Charlotte families, ensuring no parent has to choose between work and caring for their children.

His bold plan expands the successful MECK Pre-K program by adding 1,000 seats annually, launches Charlotte 3-K for free or low-cost pre-K for 3-year-olds, and introduces the innovative Tri-Share program to cut childcare costs by 66% for working families.

By capping childcare expenses at 7% of income for families earning up to 575% of the federal poverty level, partnering with local large corporations for annual funding, and leveraging federal grants, Brendan’s plan saves low-income families up to $15,000 and middle-class households $3,000–$5,000 per year.

With new partnerships, we’ll target investments to underserved neighborhoods, boosting economic mobility and kindergarten readiness by 25%.

Join Us to build a Charlotte where every child thrives and every family prospers.
